Ruby Wax in stand-up performance at psychiatric hospital

Comedy legend Ruby Wax bared her soul on stage in a unique stand-up performance at a Birmingham psychiatric hospital. Patients of Edgbaston’s Woodbourne Priory witnessed the stars show which contained an intimate telling of her own battle against depression.

The intimate audience of 58 included people struggling with their own type mental illness, their friends, families and doctors. All of them were reminded they are not alone as the American comic stormed through a thought-provoking set which brought her close to tears at times and wickedly funny within seconds.

Her purpose in staging the show was to break down the stigma attached to mental illness.

The content of the show is being kept under wraps before it goes on a nationwide tour ending in London.
