Can constant sun impact mental health

Too much sun can reportedly have a serious impact on the mental health of individuals. A new study by Swedish researchers suggests that constant exposure to the sun can lead to insomnia, which can contribute to suicidal thoughts or feelings.

The studies findings was released in the BioMed Central journal BMC Psychiatry on Friday.

Karin Sparring Bjorksten from the Sweden based Karolinska Institute and colleagues are quoted in the report as stating that, “During the long periods of constant light, it is crucial to keep some circadian rhythm to get enough sleep and sustain mental health.” Bjorksten is further quoted as stating, “We found that suicides were almost exclusively violent and increased during periods of constant day…Light is just one of the many factors in the complex tragedy of suicide, but this study shows that there is a possible relationship between the two.”
